Society in the United States of America has been very diverse since the influx of people from different parts of the world. We had the native Americans with their own distinct culture. The white Americans then over powered other ethnic communities. African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and other ethnic cultures within the United States used theatre as means of presenting to others what their culture is like and theatre was also used to educate the newer generations that were unfamiliar of the culture of their predecessors. Ethnic theatre is also the main leisure provider for the immigrants who seeks for entertainment after the day's hard work. Immigrants used ethnic theatre as an opportunity for socializing as well. Ethnic theatre also provided grounds for protesting against the social issues that were prominent during the time. Ethnic theatre has seen its high as more immigrants were introduced to this society. But later ethnic theatre declined due to hatred of the majority, Americanization of the ethnic community, introduction of tv and other sources, etc. But, still ethnic theatre exists and there are efforts to maintain it in the US as to show how diverse this nation is.
